GW Hospital offers single-port robotic surgery using the daVinci® Surgical System Down from six to four to just ONE incision less than one inch in length – surgeons at GW Hospital perform highly advanced laparoscopic and robotic single-port procedures through the bellybutton. This minimally invasive technique helps alleviate discomfort for patients, reduces blood loss, shortens length of hospital stay, and minimizes scarring allowing for a quicker recovery. Single-port Surgery Highlights from the Physicians at GW Hospital:
- Dr. Fred Brody was the first in the DC Metropolitan Region to perform a Single-Site gall bladder removal using the daVinci Robot.
- The GW Hospital Robotic Colorectal Program has earned the distinction as a Colorectal Epicenter. Surgeons from around the nation will visit the GW Hospital Center for Robotic Surgery to learn from Dr. Vincent Obias, Director of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Obias is internationally known for one-inch single incision robotic surgery.
- As Director of the GW Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery, Dr. Robinson was the first surgeon in the DC Metro region to perform a robotic single port hysterectomy.
- Dr. Marfori has helped pioneer innovative ways to perform procedures as common as hysterectomy and became one of the first Washington-area physicians to perform single-incision laparoscopic hysterectomy. She is also interested in incorporating robotics into laparoscopic surgery to improve patient outcomes and shorten recovery. Dr. Marfori completed GW’s first post-graduate fellowship in minimally invasive GYN surgery under the tutelage of Dr. James Robinson.
